Carrefour supermarket near me gets real as fifth branch opens at Uchumi space in Sarit Centre in Nairobi on Thursday.
The new Carrefour Sarit Centre supermarket will increase Carrefour’s staff base to 1,400 employees. Uchumi closed the Sarit Centre branch in January after more than 30 years of operations.
Carrefour, which launched its first store in Nairobi in May 2016, opened its fourth supermarket at the Junction Mall in January 2018, at the same space that was previously occupied by the struggling Nakumatt Holdings.
Carrefour supermarkets in Kenya, last year recorded Sh8.2 billion in sales from its local business due to a fast expansion of the supermarket chain in the Kenyan market.

Carrefour, the world’s second-largest supermarket chain after Wal-Mart also operates the indoor entertainment unit, Magic Planet, which is located at Two Rivers.
“The group is fully focused on the Carrefour 2022 plan, with ambitious action plans currently being implemented in all of its geographies,” Alexandre Bompard, the chief executive of Carrefour, said. “Carrefour is back on the offensive and is investing to resume growth.”
Carrefour made public its Kenya annual sales in a newly-released financial report that also calculates its local assets as of December 2017 at Sh3.1 billion.
The Sh8.2 billion recorded from the four Carrefour branches is in line with Carrefour’s earlier revelation that its first outlet at The Hub Karen made Sh1.54 billion in revenues in the first seven months of operation (May to December 2016).
Carrefour supermarket chain is slowly emerging as a top alternative for the Kenyan customer looking for better offers and service.
